A call for teachers to use ‘Living Democracy’ in Bosnia & Herzegovina

An article about Living Democracy was published on the official website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in November.  

The Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a national level ministry in charge of the coordination and consolidation of entity authorities, the planning and definition of international strategies in  healthcare and social protection fields , retirement, science and education, labour and employment, culture and sports, as well as a range of other portfolios. 

Looking back, the first edition and the “spark” for what we know now as ‘Living democracy’ was developed in Bosnia and Herzegovina to support a new school subject – democracy and human rights – that was introduced in 2002.

Since 1996, the Council of Europe has been involved in the training of teachers and teacher trainers of EDC and HRE to support the peace-building process after the war. Living Democracy was one of the first materials published in the field of education for citizenship and human rights which was available for teachers and teacher trainers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. For a number of years, the materials in the Living Democracy series were tried, tested and used in schools across Bosnia and Herzegovina.  

A letter with information about the Living democracy online resource was also shared with relevant Ministers of Education and Pedagogical Institutes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
