Promoting competencies for a democratic culture through games

New teaching and learning materials from the DEMOGAMES international cooperation project are now available. The DEMOGAMES project, in which Rebecca Welge from our Living Democracy Team was part of the project team, focuses on the development of the Democracy Game Box.

The newly available Democracy Game Box features eight new analogue and digital games to learn and teach playfully about, for and though democracy and democratic competencies.

The DEMOGAMES material and game instructions are available free of charge for self-printing. Download your copy in English here: https://demokrative.ch/index.php/en/democracy-game-box

The DEMOGAMES “Analogue and Digital Game-Based-Learning Tools for Youth Work” project involves partners from Switzerland, Romania, Germany, Spain and Belgium. For the period 2019-2022, the project is co-funded by the EU’s Erasmus+ programme.

The Democracy Game Box includes dice games, board games, card games and role-playing games that can be used in a variety of ways in extracurricular youth work, as well as in schools and education. All games deal with democracy in various ways and have been developed to promote the competencies for a democratic culture as described in the Council of Europe’s reference framework. The game box is accompanied by a manual for trainers, teachers and youth workers describing possible applications for the democracy games.
