Find a constructive way for a successful interaction with your toddler built upon the three Ts. These questions might help you find successful interaction possibilities:
Tune In: What is the situation like for your toddler?
Talk More: What could you tell your child? Describe the characteristics of the food. Describe what your toddler is doing. Describe your own feelings, why are you angry?
Take Turns: What could your toddler do on his own? What could you do next together?
Ideas for communication with the Ts:
Tune In: I see that you are playing with your food. Don’t you like what is on your plate? Aren’t you hungry?
Talk More: When you throw your food around like that, I will have to spend a lot of time to clean up the kitchen. Let’s have a look at your plate together. I can see lots of tasty food here, and it also smells very nice. Can you smell it? Can I help you with eating?
Take Turns: What kind of food would you like to try next? The carrot? Yummy, it tastes sweet! Let’s cut the carrots into little pieces, we can cut them together. How many noodles are there on your plate? Let’s count them together! Would you like to drink some water or tea? You can hold the mug on your own. What would you like to try next? You can take the peas out of the bowl on your own, if you like.
