For human rights and freedoms to be enjoyed by all, it is not enough to have them written in to the law. The law cannot do everything by itself – individuals need to take responsibility as well. People need to be prepared to stand up for the rights of other people as well as for their own, and give up some of their freedoms if it helps others to enjoy theirs. In school, young people reflect on the moral and legal responsibilities that come with being a member of society. They are given positions of responsibility in the school community and opportunities to participate in school decision-making.
