Movie not to be missed

Our German colleague Peter Krapf recommends a wonderful film about strong girls who make change possible. He writes: “If you find the time, this film is well worth seeing. It tells the story of what four girls can achieve. They fight against air pollution in India and the expansion of coal-fired power generation in Australia, against the sending of plastic waste to Indonesia and for a water cistern in a Senegalese village. They create publicity, initiate campaigns or demos and write letters to former President Trump and Chancellor Merkel.

The Senegalese girl is in danger of losing her place in school as she hardly has the time or energy for schoolwork because of the hassle of fetching water. She manages to give a radio interview, which leads to the UN coordinator in the capital Dakar inviting her to meet. She explains very clearly to her that her right to education depends on a safer water supply. The result is that her village gets a water container.

I was very impressed by the learning processes and skills of these girls, coupled with their charm and determination. Children fight for their rights and their future and move more than one would expect.

The gender aspect jumps right out at you – it is girls who are taking up the fight for their future.”
